Jessie Florence Crossland, Age 68 years, 0 months, and 30 days, of Hondo, Texas, died on Thursday, February 24, 2005. She was born in Robstown, on January 25, 1937, the daughter of Robert Clyde & Zeta Opal (Whitney) Nichols. She was the second of eight children. She married James Frank Johnston in 1952 and had four children. James F., Jr. died shortly after birth and James F., Sr. died in 1962. She married James E. Crossland in 1963 and she adopted Noell Crossland when he was five days old. They lived in Corpus Christi for 27 years. Jessie worked as a bartender / waitress for more than 40 years. She never met a stranger. She retired in 1999. After the death of her husband James E. Crossland and the death of her grand daughter she moved to Hondo in 2003 where she resided until her death She was preceded in death by her parents; 1st husband James Frank Johnston, 2nd husband James Everette Crossland; daughter Brenda Joyce McKinley, son James F. Johnston, Jr.; grand daughter Jessica Opal Diaz; sister Barbara Jo Capps; brothers William Clyde Nichols, Robert Wesley Nichols. Jessie is survived by her daughters Barbara Elaine Lance and husband Randy of Corpus Christi, Inez Yvonne Muennink and husband Darrell of Hondo; son Noell Crossland and wife Patricia of Universal City; 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; sisters Sharon Kay Whitlow of Houston, Patricia Opal Gregory of Bastrop, Dolly E. Smith of Videlia, LA, Lenny L. James of Banquete, Paulene Nichols of Holiday, FL. Her cremains will be intered with her husbands and grand daughter at Mission South Cemetery on March 5, 2005.
