Jessie Arthur Long, age 73, passed away Monday, June 10, 2007, at Canyon Lake, TX, after coping many years with the progressive blood disorder, myelofibrosis. He was born Sept. 8, 1933, in LaSalle County, to Raymond Royal and Tressie Mae (Arnold) Long. After his early childhood in the rural community of Millett near Cotulla, he and his family moved to San Antonio where he graduated from Burbank High School and Trinity University. An active member of Palm Heights Methodist Church, he served on the Southwest Texas Conference Youth Council and received the call to ministry at one of the numerous Mt. Wesley, Kerrville, church camps he attended. He received training at Asbury Seminary and Perkins School of Theology and served United Methodist churches throughout South Texas for 46 years. He was very active in church and civic organizations in the communities he served and also held statewide positions. He was married to Martha Jane Kaiser of Center Point in 1961 and was blessed with the birth of a son and a daughter before his wife's death in 1969. Later, he married Frances Mofield of Yancey, with whom he shared 32 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, Frances; son and daughter-in-law, David and Sherri Long, and grandson, Tanner Scott Long, all of Bryan; daughter and son-in-law, Cyndi (Long) and Keith Rollings and grandchildren, Sara, Shelby and Kelsey Rollings, all of Mar-tindale; brother, Bill Long and wife Judy of San Antonio; and many sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 14, at Hondo Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. at Canyon Lake United Methodist Church.
