James Robert "Jim" Newton of Yancey, Texas, went to be with the Lord on June 12, 2006, at the age of 58. He was born August 21, 1947, in Houston, the son of Howard H. & Rosemary (Knowles) Newton. Jim attended Allen Military Academy in Bryan, Texas and graduated from Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. For most of his life Jim worked in sales, ranching, and livestock trading. Much of Jim's adult life was spent at his family's beloved Frio Ranch in Yancey, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents. Jim is survived by his daughter Meagan Harp and husband Michael of VA; sisters Rosemary Casson of Del Rio, Margie Miloey and husband Brannon of Houston; nieces Lauren Miley Story and Catherine Miley; nephews Chris, Chad and Chase Casson; cousins Sam, John and Charles Rennick; as well as many great-nieces and nephews. Jim was blessed with many wonderful friends who loved him as a brother especially Jennifer and Mark Blythe, as well as their children Ricky, Ross, Amber and Shane Blythe. His love for the Yancey Community shown in his commitment to the Yancy V.F.D. which he helped establish, Jim was a Master Mason, a Knight Templer and a member of the Alzafar Shrine Temple in San Antonio. Visitation was at the Guinn-Horger Funeral Home, Wednesday , June 14, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service, was Thursday, June 15, at 10:00 a.m. at the Yancey United Methodist Church. The casket carriers were Michael E. Hays, Ross P. Blythe, Steve Blythe, Ricky Blythe, Mark Blythe, Brannon Miley. Burial followed at the Yancey Cemetery.
