Obituary

Joe Henry Biry passed away on Friday, November 22nd, 2013 in San Antonio Texas at the age of 88. Joe was born December 25th, 1924 in D'Hanis, Texas to Henry A. Biry and Hulda Langfeld Biry. Joe grew up in D'Hanis Texas until he graduated from high school at age 16. In 1941, he enrolled at Texas A&M College and became very involved in the college as a member of the ROTC, Commander of the E Company and a member of the Aggie football team and baseball team. In 1944, World War II took Joe to Basic Training and Officer Candidate School. On D Day June 6, 1944 Joe received his commission as an officer and arrived in France serving in the 3rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Battalion. His final command was as Company Commander in Berlin in 1946. In 1947, he graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelor's degree in Finance and Marketing. Joe moved to Angle-ton, Texas in 1947 to begin his career as a County Agricultural Agent in Brazoria County. In 1948 Joe married the love of his life Doris Stiegler in D'Hanis, Texas. In 1952, Joe and Doris left Angleton and moved to Wharton, Texas to become the County Agricultural Agent for Wharton County. 1n 1953, they moved to West Columbia, Texas where Joe began his banking career and raised their two daughters. In 1967, they moved to San Antonio where Joe became Senior Executive Vice President of Northside Bank. He retired after having served over the 36 years in the banking business. As a businessman he was genuine, practical and caring. Joe was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War and a member of the American Legion. He also held offices in numerous civic clubs during his working life. He was preceded in death by his brother J.C. Biry and son in law, Tom Richter who passed away in 2011. Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris Stiegler Biry; daughters; Marcella Warren and her husband, John Francis (Frank) Warren; Jerrianne Richter, six grand children: Blake Warren Woolsey and her husband Wayne; John Warren and his wife Kari; Wes Warren and his wife Celina, Megan Richter, Matthew Richter and his wife Rachel; Marcianne Mendoza and her husband Randy; Joe was blessed to have six great grandchildren who loved him dearly, Page, Declan and Jett Woolsey, Jack and Grayson Warren and Sophia Mendoza; sisters, Elaine Koch and Vivian Zinsmeyer; sister in law, Patricia Biry and many nieces and nephews.
