John Charles Hartman of Hondo, 75, passed away Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017. Born Sept. 7, 1942, in Hondo, he was the only son of Frank George and Mary Ethel Morrison Hartman, who preceded him in death. He attended Hondo schools, graduating with the Class of 1961. He was a manager for the football team and remained a life-long Owls fan. He joined the U. S. Army and served two years during the Vietnam War. Returning home, he was attending college in Commerce, his mother's alma mater, when he was injured in an accident that left him wheelchair bound. He was able to stay in the family home with in-home health care until a couple years ago. He very much enjoyed being taken to the family ranch by family and friends. And, over the years, his passion for and presence at Hondo Owl football games inspired two coaches to take him on outings to their hunting leases. John Charles is survived by cousins and other extended family. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at First United Methodist Church in Hondo. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Hondo.
