John Pershing Tondre, Jr. of Hondo passed away Sunday, January 17, 2021 at the age of 75. He was born May 16, 1945 in Uvalde, Texas, one of four children, to John & Billy Tondre.
He graduated from Victoria High School in 1964 and joined the United States Air Force in 1965. He served four years, including one year in Thailand, repairing air craft.
On September 16, 1967 John married the love of his life, Tangerine Saathoff. They were blessed with 53 years of marriage, and one daughter.
John worked at Medina Electric Cooperative as a Staking Technician. He enjoyed this job so much because he was able to meet and visit with people and be outdoors. He made many friends there over the years, and retired from MEC in January 2014.
John spent much time outdoors working on projects, feeding his cows, watching birds, and riding around on his mule. He truly loved to hunt and spent countless hours in the deer blind, filling feeders, and checking the game camera.
John also loved shooting and was a great marksman. In his younger years he participated in many Rifle, Pistol, and Black Powder shooting competitions, earning many 1st place awards.
He was a faithful member of New Fountain UMC, and was happy to help with church BBQs and breakfasts over the years.
John was preceded in death by his parents, and brother William Jeffrey Tondre.
He is survived by his loving wife, Tangee; daughter & son-in-law, Kendall & David Bain; sisters Gayle Schulte and Debra (Rocky) Bullock; sister-in-law Glenetta (Howard) Saathoff; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by funeral service at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 21, at New Fountain United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, Woodmen of the World Section. Social distancing and face coverings are required.
