Jose Alfonso B. Torres, age 75, of Hondo passed away Jan. 6, 2003, in San Antonio. He was born in Mexico on Oct. 28, 1927. Survivors include his son, Raymundo Torres of Mexico City, Mexico; daughters and sons-in-law, Maria Louisa and Juan Becerra of Mexico, Teresa and Francisco Ochoa, and Alicia and Armando Becerra, all of Austin; stepdaughters, Bertha Sandoval and husband, Pablo, of Waco, Lidia Benavides and husband, Ernesto, of Hondo, Louisa Cortez and Maria Garcia, both of San Antonio; stepson, Ernan Cortez of San Antonio; sisters, Juana and Maria Torres; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Omesindo and Cirila (Bustamante) Torres; daughter, Sara Olvera; and son, Tomas Torres. Pallbearers were Raymundo Torres, Jose Luis Becerra, Raul Trinidad Jr., Albert Cortez, Armando Becerra Jr., Juan Olvera Jr., John Trinidad and Celedonio Sandoval. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, led by Epifania Ybarra. Funeral Mass was at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, with Rev. Jeff Pehl officiating. Both services were at St. John's Catholic Church. Interment followed the Mass in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
