Jose Benito Equia of Kerrville, 81, left to join family in heaven on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017. He was born April 16, 1936, in Matehuala, San Luis Potosi, Mexico. A custodian at Hondo High School for 25 years, Jose transferred to Kerrville ISD and retired in 2000, bringing to close his 40-year custodial career. He loved to garden and kept his family supplied with fresh vegetables year-round. Jose was a loving husband, dad, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. His son said he was a jokester and "always Dad to the end", even to the last day of his life. With family, friends and even people he just met, he enjoyed conversations and discussions on current events or any subject anyone would like to talk about. He will be missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maria Galindo Equia; brother, Florencio; and sister, Geronima. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jose Jr. and Lydia Equia of Kerrville; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 24, 6 to 8 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Chapel, with Rosary recited at 7 p.m.. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
