José Romeo Ybarra

José Romeo “Joe” Ybarra, 70, of Hondo, TX, passed away on April 30th, 2026. He was born in Hondo on May 14th, 1955.

Joe spent most of his adult life as a tradesman in various fields, and excelled at any job he encountered.

He had a love for dancing, friends and family. If you needed help or just a listening ear, Joe was that guy, and he will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering loyalty, and ability to bring warmth and laughter into any room. He had a spirit that resonated deeply with family and friends, and his memory will live on through the countless moments shared with him.

He is survived by his children, Veronica Reyes Arocha (Richard), Melissa Reyes Swenson (Daniel), Jessica Reyes Arellano, Josephine Herrera {Casildo Cortez), Phillip Herrera, and Maria Lydia Cantu, 24 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Pedro Ybarra Jr., Albert Ybarra, Leticia Hoodenpyle, Regina Ybarra and Teresa Garcia. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro H. and Mary Lydia Moncada Ybarra.

Joe’s impact will not be forgotten, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m., followed by Memorial Mass at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 2101 Ave. K, Hondo. 

His family appreciates the love, prayers, and support given during this difficult time.
