Josefina "Fina" (Perez) Hernandez, age 80, of Hondo went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, after her struggle with cancer. She was born in Hondo Feb. 15, 1926, the daughter of Bernardino and Emilia (Valdez) Perez. Fina was known by many for the delicious tamales and flour tortillas she made professionally and as a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Octaviano Hernandez; son, Ruben P. "Shicken" Tapia; granddaughter, Diana Salazar; and grandson, Ronnie Lopez. She is survived by her brother, Roberto Perez and wife Blanca; her children and their spouses, Edward and Bea Tapia, Alfredo Jr. and Cuca Tapia, Carolina and Joe Salazar, Oralia and Joe Martinez, all of Hondo, and Elida and Bobby Garza of San Antonio; 31 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. and prayer service will be at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 12, at the Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana. Pallbearers will be Eddie Tapia, James Martinez, Roland Contero, Freddie Tapia, Ruben Tapia Jr., and Anthony Urrutia. Interment will be in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
