Joseph Allen Draughon, age 66, of rural Hondo passed away Friday, Feb. 28, 2014. Born March 8, 1947, in Harlingen, he was the son of Charles Raymond and Mary Delores (Curry) Draughon, who preceded him in death. Joseph worked for the State of Texas for 30 years as a day care contract manager and consultant. He served in the Army from 1966 until he was honorably discharged in 1969, and then served in the Army National Guard for 10 years from 1978 to 1988. He attended Pan American University in Edinburg where he majored in economics. He loved hunting, fishing, traveling, reading and always spending time with family. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Karen (Guest) Draughon; daughter, Melissa Hernandez and husband Armando of Castroville; sons, Charles B. Draughon and wife Latisha of Meridian and Steven M. Draughon and wife Ashley of Burkburnett; 11 grandchildren, Olivia K. Draughon, Hunter B. Draughon, Jonathan A. Hernandez, Abigail F. Hernandez, Kirsten Diaz, Leo Diaz, Haleah Ritenour, Joseph Ritenour, Jasmine Galloway, Garett Roberts and Courtney Roberts; and two great-grandchildren, Brendin and Levi Diaz. Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 3, at Tarpley Baptist Church. Interment will be at 10 a.m., Monday, March 10, at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, that donations in his memory may be made to Tarpley Baptist Church Music Fund or the charity of your choice.
