Joseph William "Billy" Rothe, age 82, of D'Hanis, passed away Monday, Nov. 22, 2010. He was born Oct. 3, 1928, in D'Hanis, the son of Eric August and Cora (Finger) Rothe. He was a lifelong rancher and spent several years as cashier at D'Hanis State Bank and a bookkeeper for Valdina Farms. He enjoyed the ranch and hunting. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He taught his family respect, honesty and how to make work fun. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, August Jacob "Augie" Rothe; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Dorothy Rothe and Howard and Lill Rothe; and brother-in-law, Bob Golden. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Melba Rose "Rosie" (Lutz) Rothe; children, Charles W. Rothe and wife Janet of Hondo, Susan R. Herrmann and husband Dennis of D'Hanis, Thomas J. Rothe and wife Marcy of Hondo, Eric C. Rothe and wife Jennifer of D'Hanis, Peggy R. Bendele and husband Bill of Hondo, and Michael J. Rothe and wife Shannon of D'Hanis; 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Margaret A. Golden of Ft. Worth, Dorothy "Dottie" Cheney and husband Wayne, and Robert A. "Bobby" Rothe and wife Norma, all of D'Hanis. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel, Hondo, with Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m., Saturday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, D'Hanis, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Pallbearers are his granddaughters: Brandi Morrill, Kim Wells, Emily Stewart, Annie DeKoch, Staci Meyer, Courtney Rothe, Hannah Rothe, and Jordan Rothe. Casket carriers are his grandsons: Matthew Rothe, Burt Herrmann, Jonathan Rothe, Josh Herrmann, Jack Wilson, Sam Wilson, Seth Rothe and Ben Wilson. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Medina Regional Hospital Healthcare Fund or Holy Cross Catholic Church.
