Joseph Martin Zinsmeyer of D¿½Hanis passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at the age of 89. Joe was born in D'Hanis April 7, 1922, the son of Martin A. and Dorothy M. (Koch) Zinsmeyer. He served in the U.S.Army Air Corps during WWII. He worked at Texas Aviation Industries (TAI) in Hondo and for Mason and Hanger at Medina Base in San Antonio and the Pantex plant in Amarillo. He retired in 1984 as an ordinance plant production supervisor. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mathilda (Kimmerly) Zinsmeyer; brothers, Bernard C. and James V. Zinsmeyer; and brother-in-law, James Beck. He is survived by his sons, Dean Zinsmeyer and wife Karen of D'Hanis, Kim Zinsmeyer and wife Kelly of Lubbock; daughter, Cathy Loyd and husband Wayne of Amarillo; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; brothers, David A. "Whitey" Zinsmeyer of Floresville and Herbert Zinsmeyer and wife Lois of Austin; sisters, Emily D. Beck of D'Hanis and Ellen Marie Spaight and husband Mike of Greenville; and sister-in-law, Terry Zinsmeyer of San Antonio. Rosary at 9:45 a.m. Monday, Sept. 5, at Holy Cross Catholic Church will be followed by Funeral Mass. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, D'Hanis. Pallbearers were Tim Spaight, Justin Ainsworth, Kenny Adlong, Ed Zinsmeyer, Joseph Zinsmeyer, and J. L. Zinsmeyer. The family suggests memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of one's choice.
