Joyce Eileen (Fuhrman) Kriewald, age 80, of Hondo passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, February 20, 2013. Born July 13, 1932, in Victoria, she was the daughter of Emil B. and Selma (Mueller) Fuhrman. After graduation from high school, she moved to San Antonio and met the love of her life, Walter Arthur Kriewald. They were married on Feb. 23, 1952, in Victoria, and the marriage was blessed with two children, Brenda and Glen. Joyce and Walter moved from San Antonio to Hondo in 1958 to carry on Walter's family tradition of farming. They continued farming in Hondo until 1985. Upon retirement, Joyce enjoyed traveling the United States and the world with Walter until his death in 1998. A loving homemaker, she was active in her church, a member of Friends of the Hondo Public Library, and a member of Texas Farm Bureau. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; sister, Evelyn Ideus; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Kriewald; and grandson, Justin Kriewald. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Miles and husband Larry of Nixon; son, Glen Kriewald of Hondo; four grandchildren, Melanie Svoboda and husband Mike of Gonzales, Christie Dunavant and husband Justin of Alice, Tina Tenberg of Nixon, and Russell Kriewald of Portland; six great-grandchildren, Zachary Miles and Miles Svoboda of Gonzales, Natalie and Megan Tenberg of Nixon, and Katelyn and Alexis Dunavant of Alice; and brother, Leslie Fuhrman of Inez. Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 21, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 22, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
