Juan Vargas of Hondo, 78, passed away Friday, Sept. 8, 2017. Born June 24, 1939, in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico, he was the son of Bartolo and Christina Nieves Vargas, who precede him in death. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Vargas-Padron; sons, Reynaldo and Modesto of Austin; daughters, Josefina, Graciela and Marina, all of Mexico; and many grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, with Rosary recited at 7 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 14, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
