Obituary

Judge Edward Sandusky, DVM, of Hondo, Texas, died on Monday, October 11, 2004 at the age of 74 years, 8 months, and 16 days,. He was born at home, in Bronte, Texas on January 25, 1930, the son of Austin & Ruth (Hickman) Sandusky. Judge is a US Air Force veteran, and a long time HISD School Board Member. He was preceded in death by his parents. Judge is survived by his wife Camille (Martin) Sandusky; sons Koby Austin Sandusky and wife Andrea of Reading, PA, Sam Ely Sandusky and wife Stacie of Spring, Ross Edward Sandusky of Hondo; six grandchildren, Daniel Austin Sandusky, Josiah Andrew Sandusky, Kami Lea Sandusky, Elijah James Sandusky, Micah Ann Sandusky, and Layne Ely Sandusky; and three step-grandchildren, Nathan Covey, Paul Case, and Cherylann Case; brother Gerald Sandusky of Bronte; sister Mary Louise Snyder of Dumas. Dr Sandusky attended the Bronte Schools and participate in all sports at Bronte High School. He attended Texas A&M University, where he was a member of the ROTC and played freshman basketball. He graduated in 1952 with a degree in Agriculture Education. Commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, he was trained for one year in meteorology at the University of New Mexico and assigned as a weather officer at Goodfellow Air force Base in San Angelo. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force with the rank of captain. Admitted to the School of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University in 1956 and graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1960. He practiced in the Haltom City Animal Hospital at Ft. Worth for two years. Judge and Camille were married on January 30, 1954, in the chapel of the new College Church of Christ, adjacent to the Abilene Christian College campus in Abilene. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Dr. Sandusky and his family moved to Hondo in 1962 and he practiced veterinary medicine in Medina County until his retirement. He owned land on the Hondo Creek and engaged in ranching until his death. During his 42 years in Hondo, Dr. Sandusky served as an elder of the Hondo Church of Christ, a long-time trustee on the Hondo ISD school board, and on the East Medina Water Board,. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medicine Association, the Texas Veterinary Medicine Association, the South Texas Farm and Ranch Club, and the San Angelo Roadrunners. As a member of the Hondo Church of Christ, he was dedicated to the prison ministry at the Torres Unit of the Texas Department of Corrections near Hondo. He mentored on Tuesday evenings and participated in worship on Sundays. The Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am Friday, October 15, the Church of Christ in Hondo. The burial will follow in the Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
