Jurleen (Alblinger) Finger of Helotes died on Monday, Feb. 11, 2008. Wife of Jack L. Finger of Helotes, Jurleen was born in Hallettsville, Texas, on Jan. 28, 1929. She was the oldest of two children born to William Alblinger and Lydia (Kahanek) Alblinger of Hallettsville. After elementary school at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Hallettsville, Jurleen attended and graduated from Hallettsville High School in 1946. In high school she was a member of the high school band, playing the coronet. In 1946 Jurleen enrolled in the Santa Rosa School of Nursing in San Antonio, graduating as a registered nurse in 1949. Following her graduation she specialized in operating room surgical nursing, assisting a number of noted surgeons including Drs. Ferdinand and August Herff and William Wolff. Jurleen in 1951 married Jack L. Finger of San Antonio in Sacred Heart Church, Hallettsville. Six children were born to Jurleen and Jack, each of whom earned a college degree. Early on, Jurleen elected to be a "stay-at-home" mom but found time to serve as an active den mother to a pack of Cub Scouts of Holy Rosary Catholic Church parish. Jurleen was preceded in death by her father and mother; brother, Claude of Temple; stepfather, Robert Laas of Hallettsville; stepbrother, Delmer Laas of Shiner; and grandson, Christopher Johnson. She is survived by her husband, Jack L. Finger of Helotes; sons, Jack M. Finger of San Antonio and William A. Finger and wife Vernene of Bandera; daughters, Judith Boyle and husband Jim of Cincinnati, Nancy Johnson and husband Gary of Helotes, Margaret Pruitt and husband Ollie of Helotes, and Laura Welch and husband Orbie of Hutto; two stepsisters, Maureen Fiedler of Pasadena and Eloise Boney of Houston; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Jurleen was a member of the Immaculate Conception Holy Family Guild and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Helotes, where she was a daily communicant at mass. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Helotes, with Rosary recited at 9:30, followed by Mass at 10 a.m. The casket carriers were; Johnny Rock, Mike Keeffe, Kevin Finger, Jacob Johnson, Brian Boyle, David Lutz. Interment will be at 12:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in D'Hanis. Memorial donations may be made to Christus Santa Rosa Children's Hospital; or to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
