Karen Jean (Wernette) DCamp, age 54, of Hondo passed away Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, in San Antonio. She was born April 26, 1954, in Castroville, the daughter of Leonard George and Marian (Williams) Wernette. She was preceded in death by twin sisters, Melody Marie and Melanie Anne Wernette, and infant grandson, Kyle Alexander DCamp. Karen was a homemaker. She was a talented musician, winning the Sousa Award as a baritone player in the Hondo Owl Band in 1972, and was organist in her church from the age of 12 until 2004. She Also enjoyed gardening and camping with her family. She is survived by her parents; husband, James C. DCamp; children, Byron James DCamp and wife Laura of Dayton, TX, Nathan Thomas DCamp and Jocelyn Kay DCamp, both of San Antonio; grandsons, Jeremy Byron DCamp and Wesley Matthew DCamp; sisters, Belinda Charlene Ninedorf and husband Gregory of Hondo and Dawna Lynn Nowlin and husband John of Elmendorf; and brothers, Leonard Brian "Hooty" Wernette and wife Cheri of Quihi and George Travis Wernette of San Antonio. Visitation will be at Guinn-Horger Chapel Friday, Jan. 23, 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon). Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
