As softly and gently as a butterfly floats in the wind, Katherine "Kathy" Ann Svoboda Adlong went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014. Kathy was born on Sept. 2, 1945, to Elizabeth Gaines and Gerald Strickland in Houston. She was adopted and raised by Joseph D. and Dorothy Ewell Svoboda. On Sept. 5, 1964, she married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth C. Adlong Sr., in Crosby, Texas. In 1977, they moved their family to Hondo and then later to Quihi. She was a homemaker who loved everything outdoors, gardening, writing, crafting and photography. She was an active member of the Quihi Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Hondo Garden Club and Medina County Museum Board. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her daughter, Kim Adlong and husband Curtis Spiller; sons, Ken Adlong and wife Aj, and Kirk Adlong and wife, Jennifer; grandchildren, Kristi Lewis and husband John, Krista Spiller-Adlong, Kenny, Karley, Kaitlyn, Kolby and Kassie Adlong; and great-granddaughters, Makenna Adlong and Kayleigh and Beth Lewis. Visitation/wake will be Saturday, Feb. 8, 2 to 4 p.m., at the Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. A Celebration of Her Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb.15, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Quihi. Honorary bearers are her grandchildren.
