Obituary

Kathlyn Jane Brucks Strother, age 77, devoted wife, mother and grandmother passed away April 30, 2009 in San Antonio. She was born June 20, 1931 to Arthur and Mary Brucks. She grew up in Hondo and married Duane in 1951. Shortly after marrying, she traveled to Germany where her husband was stationed for15 months. Upon de-commissioning, they returned to Texas for a few years where their oldest son Glenn was born. They moved to Chicago, Illinois for management training with Swift &Co and their daughter, Denise was born. For nearly 30 years this dedicated homemaker moved with her husband and family as he was transferred numerous times to Iowa, Tennessee, (where William "Bill" was born) back to Texas, Nebraska, and Missouri. Regardless of where the family was living they traveled annually to Texas and Hondo to visit family. Through out her adult life Kathlyn subscribed to the Hondo Anvil Herald and kept clippings of stories about relatives, friends and classmates. In 1985, Duane and Kathlyn retired to Hondo. She enjoyed re-acquainting with classmates, friends, and all her relatives. She played golf, looked forward to get-togethers with friends and taking care of her loving husband and their home. She also enjoyed the San Antonio Texas A&M Club bus trips to Aggie football games . Kathlyn was a devoted daughter caring for her mother. She had a "green thumb" and nurtured plant cuttings to give to friends and for the First United Methodist Church Fall Festival for several years. She is preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Arthur "Sonny" Brucks Jr. She is survived by her husband of nearly 58 years, Duane of Hondo; sons Glenn and wife Linda of Trophy Club, Texas and William "Bill", Plano, Texas; daughter, Denise Christensen and grandchildren, Callan Duane and Madeline Jane of Kearney, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Shirley Letot of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; nephew, Rick Letot and wife Anna of Granbury, Texas; niece, Judee Parish and husband James of Hempstead, Texas and many loving great nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins and their children. A memorial service will be Monday, May 4, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church where she was married and all her children and grandchildren were baptized. The family suggests memorials may be made to the church.
