Lance David Griffin

Lance David Griffin of Hondo passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the age of 57.

Born in Hondo April 17, 1969, he was the son of Larry James Griffin and Mary Rohrbach Griffin.

He was preceded in death by his father and both maternal and paternal grandparents.

Lance attended first grade in Hondo. The family moved to Kentucky in 1976 and he attended school there through his freshman year when the family moved back to Texas. He finished high school in Hondo as a member of the Class of 1987.

After high school, he worked for George W. Murray Surveying, G&S Construction, and Alsatian Golf Course. He was employed by Vulcan Materials at the time of his passing.

Lance married Terry Averitt in 1992. They had two sons, Brooks and Daulton. He later re-married Katie McGuffin in 2006 and they had a daughter, Jadyn Rose.

Wherever Lance was, the good times followed. He never passed up an opportunity to play golf, sing karaoke, dance to a good song, or enjoy a night of bowling with family and friends. His fun-loving spirit made ordinary moments unforgettable. More than anything, he loved showing up for his children. Whether it was a school event, sporting game, performance or celebration, he was always there cheering them on with pride. Being a father was one of the greatest joys of his life.

This past December Lance experienced one of the proudest moments of his life when he became a PawPaw for the first time, welcoming Davis James Griffin.

Lance is survived by his mother, Mary Rohrbach Griffin; brother, Justin (Jennifer) Griffin of Hondo; brother, Mike (Cindy) Griffin and sister, Judy (Scott) Wilson, all of Shelbyville, Kentucky; sons, Brooks Griffin of Hondo and Daulton (Caroline) Griffin of Midland; daughter, Jadyn Rose Griffin of Bergheim; grandchild, Davis James Griffin of Midland; two nephews, Lucas and Brendan Griffin of Hondo; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins in Texas and Kentucky.

Visitation at Hondo Methodist Church will be from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26. Rosary will be recited and his life celebrated beginning at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

Serving as pallbearers: Kenneth Rohrbach, George Proctor, Kyle Heyen, Ryan McBee, Kevin Long, Brett Hutto. Honorary pallbearers: Lucas and Brendan Griffin.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
