Lanell Wiemers Allen, age 92, of Hondo, passed away Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015. She was born June 21, 1923, in Yancey, to Ernest Theodore and Blanche McCaughan Wiemers. She was baptized, married, and is now having her funeral in the Yancey Methodist Church. Fred Arthur Allen Jr. taught agriculture at Yancey High School before World War II, at the same time Lanell was a student there. After the war, he returned to Yancey for a wedding, met Lanell and they were married in 1949. Together they raised their family in Campbellton and Madisonville TX. After Fred's passing in 1982, Lanell moved to Hondo to be near her sister and brother-in-law, Auldine and Charles "Dook" McAnelly. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Gene Sosebee. Survivors include her daughter, Martha Nell Allen of Hondo; son, Doyle (Mary Ann) Allen and their children, Daniel and Carlie of LaVernia; and her sister, Auldine McAnelly of Hondo, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 1, 5 to 7 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 2, 12 p.m., at Yancey Methodist Church, followed by interment at Campbellton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Yancey United Methodist Church, Hondo United Methodist Church, or the charity of your choice.
