Larry L.
Schweers
March 22, 1942 – August 12, 2025
Larry L. Schweers passed peacefully on August 12, 2025 after a brief battle with cancer.
Born in Hondo on March 22, 1942, he was the son of Harry J. and Kathryn (Day) Schweers.
After completing school in Hondo, he attended the University of Texas in Austin where he pursued a degree in Music. Larry played clarinet for the Longhorn Band. During holidays and summer breaks, he worked in San Antonio as an evening DJ for KMFM Classical Radio located in North Star Mall.
The year following UT graduation, he received an emergency teaching certification to teach in Yancey School (Elementary grade). Larry often bragged on his class and saw much potential in them.
When the school year ended, Larry moved to New York. He was hired by Archetype Printing as a type setter-proof reader and later an editor. He worked 15 years at the high stress job before returning to Texas.
Larry attended Our Lady of the Lake University to continue his education. In addition to his classes, he taught a Statistics class. He received a degree in Clinical Counseling in 1983. Plans of setting up practice were cut short by an aneurysm and stroke the following year. After many months in rehab followed by outpatient therapy he remained determined to confront and overcome his limitations head on. He faced his final battle with cancer in the same manner.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his sister, Melissa Jouett (Bob). His niece Ann Sansom (Phillip) and nephew Dr. Ryan Jouett (Amanda). Three grandnieces, (Ashton, Zoey, Ellie), two grandnephews (Kyle and Zach) and a great grandniece (Charlotte).
Our family wishes to express appreciation to Community Care Center in Hondo where Larry made his home for the past 4 years. ALL the staff cared for Larry as if he were their own. Thank you!
A celebration of Larry's life will be held at a later date.
