Laura E. Halbardier of Hondo, Texas, passed away September 19, 2005, at the age of 95. She was born June 26, 1910 near San Antonio to Carl A. & Augusta Marie (Becker) Kossaeth. Laura was a housewife, loving mother and grandmother. She loved helping her husband Charlie on the farm. A farm free of weeds, sunflowers and johnsongrass made her proud. She also loved baking homemade bread and cinnamon rolls for her family. Laura was a life long Lutheran. She was baptized October 16, 1910, confirmed April 5, 1925 and married Charlie on June 27, 1928 all in Evangelical Friedens church in San Antonio, Texas. She and Charlie transferred their membership to Zion Lutheran Church in Castroville, Texas in 1952 and then to St. Paul Lutheran Church in when they moved to Hondo in 1966. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie H. Halbardier, son Charles L. Halbardier, her parents, Carl A. and Augusta marie (Becker) Kossaeth, sisters Hilda Schroeder, Linda Kuebel, Selvin Schneider, Elsie Schneider, brothers Alvin and W.E. Kossaeth. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley and husband Melvin Knecht, daughter-in-law Ann Halbardier, grandchildren Gayle and W.C. "Carl" Gardner of Kilgorge, Texas, Charles "Chuck" L. Halbardier and wife Lynda, Gary S. Halbardier and wife Pamela all of Hondo, Terri and husband W.C. "Bill" Surber of Uvalde, sister Evelyn Krueger of Cibolo, step-sister Pearl Dietert and husband Leon, 8 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday Sept. 20, at the Guinn-Horger Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday Sept. 21, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo. The casketcarriers were Kenneth Kossaeth, Norman Kuebel, Alton Schneider, Norbert Schneider, Timothy Schneider, Vernal Schroeder. Interment will follow in Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
