Obituary

Lee R. Baker of Hondo, Texas, passed away March 31, 2006, at the age of 88, in Hondo. He was born March 3, 1918, in Alex, OK, the son of Thomas Claude & Edward Lucille (Cooper) Baker. He spent his childhood in Oklahoma where he went to school through the eighth grade and then started working. He became a child of God through Holy Baptism in 1930 in the Church of Christ. He was confirmed on October 16, 1977 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, and remained a member until his death. He served in World War II in the Army Air Corps. He met Ethel Schuehle in San Antonio. They were married on January 11, 1946. After their marriage they moved to California. The marriage was blessed with two sons, Karl and Gary. In 1975 Lee and Ethel moved back to Texas to live in the house where she was born on their family ranch north of Hondo. They renovated the old house into a comfortable home. They enjoyed gardening - always had a big garden. Lee liked to camp and fish. He served as commander of the local VFW and was also a member of Herman Sons Lodge. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Ethel Mae (Schuehle) Baker; sisters Bertha Walker, Jewel Ellis, Cleo Dozer. Lee is survived by his sons Karl Baker of Hondo, Gary Baker of Houston; grand daughter Jennie Newell; great grandchildren Crystal, Daniel, and Keaten Frantz; brothers Cecil Edward Baker of CA, Clifford Baker of Deming, NM, Ira Sidney Baker of Watsonville, CA, Thomas Claude Baker of Fresno, CA, Earl Don Baker of MO; sister Jesse Jordan of Sacramento, CA. The Visistation was from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3, at the Guinn-Horger Funeral Home and the Funeral Service, officiated by Pastor David Mayer was at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 4, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo. The casketcarriers were Scooter Mangold, Raymond Smith, Clint Smith, Ray Williams, Wiley Mangold, Rodney Mangold. Burial followed in the Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
