Lela Grace Reily Oefinger was born April 11, 1918 in Hondo, Texas. She died Wednesday January 26, 2005 in Medina County Hospital after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 9:00 AM Saturday, January 29, 2005 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bert Clayton officiating. Interment will follow in Hondo Cemetery. Mrs. Oefinger was raised in Hondo, but she left after acquiring her teaching certificate to pursue a career in education. She returned to Hondo after retirement and had been a resident since 1979. Lela Grace loved her church and was an active member of the U.M.W. She was a graduate of Southwest Texas State Teachers College and taught in the public school system in Woodsboro, Texas for over 30 years. Lela Grace was preceded in death by her husband B.G. Oefinger and her parents Richard J. and Eula S. Reily. Mrs. Oefinger is survived by one daughter, Judy Hays and husband Kenn of Brownwood, and two sons, Larry Oefinger and wife Jan of Hondo, and David Oefinger and wife Dorothy of Pflugerville. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters Jo Plume of Yoakum, Kathleen Ellis of Austin and Ann Hunter and her husband, Elmer, of Georgetown. The family requests memorials be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Hondo.
