Obituary

Leona Mae Weynand Koch, age 65 of D'Hanis, passed away on April 15, 2020 peacefully, surrounded by her family. She was born February 16, 1955 in Hondo, Texas to Wallace Jacob "Jake" Weynand and Mathilda "Tillie" Rosena John Weynand.

Leona was a member of the D'Hanis High School class of 1973. She was active in Future Homemakers of America and was a bugler in the D'Hanis Cowgirls Drum and Bugle Corp.

On October 18, 1980, Leona married Charles Koch. Together they raised their son and daughter.

Leona worked at the Medina County Tax office for ten years, until the day her son was born. She then became a stay at home mom and ranch wife.

She was a lifelong resident of D'Hanis and was involved in various activities and groups within the community. She was well known for her baking and elderly care to all of her extended grandparents. Leona was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis, Altar Society, D'Hanis Extension Education Agency, and her monthly bunco group. She was always willing to lend a hand and volunteer in any way she possibly could.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Tillie Weynand and many loved aunts and uncles.

Survivors include her husband of thirty-nine years, Charles Koch of D'Hanis; son, Justin Charles Koch of D'Hanis; daughter and son-in-law, Theresa Renae and Jonathon Schueling of D'Hanis; and grandchildren, Erin Grace and Jacob Thomas Schueling.

The Holy Rosary and Memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be for immediate family only and will be on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Her services will be live streamed on the Holy Cross Catholic Church Facebook Page or on the church's website, https://holycross-dhanis.org. When the social gathering restrictions have been lifted, a Mass, Burial and Reception will be scheduled.
