Leona Marie Saathoff Niebuhr of Hondo/Quihi passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021, at the age of 85.

Born near Hondo in the Vandenburg area, Aug. 20, 1936, she was the daughter of Clarence Julius and Esther Lorine Bohlen Saathoff.

Leona was a graduate of Hondo High School. An avid homemaker, Leona enjoyed canning preserves and jellies, cooking, and baking. She was also passionate about tending to her Hereford cattle, and was a loyal fan of the Spurs, Astros, Rangers, Dodgers, Texans, and Cowboys. Leona also enjoyed hunting, and spending time outdoors.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, Felix Hahn, Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin Niebuhr; son, Mark Niebuhr (Rachel) of Brenham; granddaughter, Mattie Niebuhr of College Station; sister, Emabelle Hahn of Doss; brothers, Howard Saathoff (Glenetta), Leonard Saathoff (Georgia) and Richard Saathoff (Beckie); and sister-in-law, Wally Saathoff, all of Hondo.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 11:00 a.m., at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Quihi. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at Quihi Cemetery.
