Leonor Santos Sandoval of Hondo, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at the age of 97. Leonor was born on March 4, 1910, in Hondo, the daughter of Jose L. & Adela (Chavana) Sandoval. Leonor was one of 9 chilfren. Her father worked countless hours in the mines of San Felipe, Mexico. After the war, Jose became a farmer. Her mother dedicated her life to raising her children and supporting her husband. As a teenager, Leonor joined La Sociadad de la Cruz Azul. On August 30, 1931, she was united in marriage to Francisco Sandoval in Hondo, Texas. They were married 53 years. For a short time during World War II, Leonor opened up her own laundry business. Afterwards, she spent the next 45 years babysitting. She loved children and was deeply committed to loving her sons, Frank and John Henry. She also enjoyed gardening, yard work, playing the piano the piano and harmonica, dominos, listening to Christian radio shows, Sunday walks, afternoon drives and cooking. In fact, her incredibly hot chile was her specialty. Her devotion to her family, her community, and most importantly, Jesus Christ has created a beautiful legacy. Leonor was a member of La Sociadad de las Guadalupanas. She took pride in serving the Lord by feeding the hungry, helping pray over the sick, and filling her heart with His word. Leonor was a life-long member of St. John's Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Francisco Sandoval;brothers, Alfredo Santos, Jesus M. Santos, Jose L. Santos; sister, Juana Santos. Leonor is survived by her sons, Frank Sandoval and wife Carmen of Hondo, John Henry Sandoval of Hondo; grandchildren, Michelle Keilman and husband Dallas of Hondo, Vanessa Sandoval of San Antonio, Kerensa Boyd and husband Steven K. of McKinney, Vanchelsa Sandoval of Hondo, Henry Francisco Sandoval pf Hondo; three great-grandchildren, Katrina and Trent Keilman of Hondo, Victoria Anne Boyd of McKinney; sister, Consuela "Connie" Gonzales of Hondo. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation was at the Guinn-Horger Funeral Home on Thursday, August 9, 2007 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The Rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. at the Guinn-Horger Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass was held at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Friday, August 10, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with burial following at the Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.
