Leroy Heiligman of Hondo went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at the age of 86. Born Feb. 20, 1930, in Dunlay, he was the son of Anton and Della Borchers Heiligman. Leroy served in the military for two years at Thule, Greenland. After he returned from the military, he began working for Medina Electric Co-op as a lineman. He later was employed at East Medina Water Company where he retired at the age of 65. He was an active member of Hondo Volunteer Fire department, the VFW, American Legion and Sons of Hermann. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards with friends, fishing and hunting. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Raymond Heiligman. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Louise Martin Heiligman; children, Judy Whitley, Joy (John Nat, MD) Sanderson, Rodney (Dottie) Heiligman, and Terri Carnes; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild; siblings, Lawrence Fritz Heiligman and Mary Ann Feltner; sister-in-law, Virginia Heiligman; and numerous other relatives. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, June 3, at New Fountain United Methodist Church, followed by interment at New Fountain Cemetery. The family suggests memorials may be made to New Fountain United Methodist Church or Uvalde Hospice.
