A memorial service celebrating the life of Linda Moss Donnelly of Ovid, NY, age 64, will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at First United Methodist Church, Hondo. Linda ended her battle with cancer surrounded by her husband and children at Cayuga Medical Center on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015. Linda and her twin sister, Laura, were born on December 30, 1950, in San Antonio, Texas, daughters to Samuel D. and Sarah M. (Cameron) Moss. She longed for the warmth of her native Hondo, Texas. We took the Texan out of Texas but could never get the Texas out of Linda. She surrounded herself with Chili peppers and Bluebonnets to remind her of home. She will be fondly remembered as the "lunch lady" at South Seneca elementary school who promoted the "Word of Day." Her love of cooking continued at home where dinner was always served promptly at 5:00 p.m. Linda loved cooking for her family and friends, from her enchilada casserole to her "Irish" spaghetti. Her famous Mama D's venison jerky and ginger snaps were loved nationwide as she sent them to her son and his battle buddies regularly during his deployment. An avid book reader, Linda enjoyed Stephen King and Dean Koontz novels. Also a music lover, her favorites were the Beatles, especially Paul McCartney, Elvis, and Reba McEntire. Her family was proud of her every day for her almost 11 years of sobriety. She cherished her cats, worrying about their care until the end. Most of all, Linda loved her grandchildren. She was instrumental in raising her first grandson, Jamison. She was lovingly referred to as "Granny" and truly put the "grand" in grandmother. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Laura Whaley Cameron; father, Samuel "Papoo" Moss; beloved aunt, Mary Ruth "Kela" Cameron; and twin sister, Laura Michelle Moss Steubing. Linda is survived by her husband of 43 years, Keith Donnelly; two children, Michael Harold (Erica) Donnelly and Kristen Sarah (Chuck Hayward) Donnelly; four grandsons, Lucas James and Dylan Michael Donnelly and Jamison Michael Pepson and Greyson Wesley Hayward; mother, Sarah "Cakkie" Moss; brother, Cam Moss; and nieces and nephews, Ruth Garcia, Rachel Cain, Anthony Steubing and Meghan and Colleen Moss. She is also survived and will be greatly missed by the Donnelly family, and her closest girlfriends, Lottie Bendele, Joyce Barber and Kate Messinger.
