Lorene Katherine Sauter Bendele, age 92, of Hondo passed away Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, in San Antonio. She was born in Hondo, Sept. 16, 1914, the daughter of Tobias Joseph and Angelina "Lina" Fohn Sauter. Lorene served many years as a clerk in the Medina County Clerk's office. She was a member of Hondo Chapter of AARP, Hermann Sons Victory Lodge, St. John's Altar Society, Martha Club and a charter member of the Hondo Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter August Bendele, in 1967; sister, Gertrude Whitehead; and brothers, Herbert, Harold, Oscar, George and Edwin "Eddie" Sauter. She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Lorene Baerenstecher and husband Kurt of Houston and Kathryn Brieden Flinn of San Antonio; son, Walter A. "Walt" Bendele of Hondo; sister, Frances E. Windrow of Marble Falls; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m and the Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, and the Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, both at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Section. The pallbearers will be Michael Brieden, John Baerenstecher, Paul Baerenstecher, Mark Baerenstecher, Tobin Flinn, Roger Gildersleeve, Stanley Craven.
