Louis Rodriguez, June 2, 1949 – February 21, 2026
Louis Rodriguez, born on June 2, 1949, passed away unexpectedly due to a sudden cardiac event on February 21, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, perseverance, and love for family.
Louis graduated from D'Hanis High School before continuing his education at Texas A&M University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Agricultural Journalism, a foundation that shaped his professional life and curiosity about the world.
An avid runner, Louis had a deep passion for endurance sports. He completed more than seventeen marathons and proudly qualified for the prestigious Boston Marathon—an achievement that reflected his discipline and determination.Louis also had a great love of travel. He toured the US extensively and visited much of Europe, as well as Australia and New Zealand. Always eager for new experiences, he was recently a spectator at the famous "Running of the Bulls" in Pamplona, Spain. Though he loved running, Louis had the good farm sense—and humor—not to attempt outrunning a 3,000-pound bull.Throughout his career, Louis worked for Franklin Labs veterinary sales and several radio production companies, then AT&T. He later retired from AT&T, but retirement did not slow him down. He went on to enjoy a successful second career as a realtor, where he continued to connect with and serve his community.
Louis is survived by his former wife Barbara Thorwegen, his beloved daughter, Helena Sonnier Rodriguez; his brothers Ramon (Eloisa), Juan (Graciella), Manuel, Albert (Patricia), and Daniel (Tiffany) Rodriguez, and his sisters Martina (Bob), Mary (Richard*), Irene (Sam), Linda (Dan* and Roger*), and Carmen (Pedro).
He was preceded in death by his parents Nicolas and Santos Rodriguez, brothers Luis, Hipolito (Rosa* and companion Linda Cooper), William (Debbie*) and Edwardo Rodriguez.
Louis will be remembered for his passionate support of his Texas Aggies, his love of photography and travel, his strong work ethic, athletic spirit, and unconditional devotion to family, especially his daughter. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.Funeral services were held on February 28 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis, Texas. Following the service, Louis was laid to rest at San Francisco Cemetery in D'Hanis, Texas.
Funeral services were entrusted to Guinn-Horger Funeral Home.
