Lucia (Garcia) Contreras, age 93, of Hondo passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009. Born Sept. 4, 1916, in Hondo, she was the daughter of Jose Angel and Arnulfa (Martinez) Garcia. She was a farmer and a homemaker. She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Rodolfo Contreras; brothers, Sisto, Santos, and Jesus Garcia; sisters, Christina Sanchez, Margarita Campos, Lupe Garcia, Santos Sanchez; and Augustina Contreras. She is survived by her husband, Edwardo Contreras; daughters, Guadalupe Contreras, Martha Leyva and husband Frank, Sara Nuñez and husband Luis, Gregoria "Goya" Garcia and husband Ignacio "Nacho", all of Hondo; 18 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 41 great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Ramana Rico of Pearsall. Rosary was recited Friday at Guinn-Horger Chapel and the Funeral Mass was at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Pallbearers were Rodolfo Contreras Jr., Bobby Cuellar, Robert Garcia, Antonio Leyva, Bentura Leyva, Juan Garcia, Steven Contreras and Jose M. Cruz. Honorary pallbearers were Eric Frausto, Jose Flores, Robert Garcia, and Joe Oswalt. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
