Luz Velasquez Ytuarte, age 89, born Sept. 12, 1927, passed on to be with the Lord on Oct. 26, 2016, at her residence in Hondo, surrounded by her family. Born and raised in Hondo, she lived her entire life here. Mrs. Ytuarte dedicated her life to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had the most important job in the family, as a homemaker and had an array of duties. Luz met her future husband, Jose Angel Ytuarte Jr., in Hondo. They were married on July 15, 1946, and shared 66 years of marriage before his passing in 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Jose Velasquez and Gregoria Velasquez; daughter, Sylvia Dolores Ytuarte; brothers, Simon Velasquez and Jose Velasquez; and sister, Pila Garcia. She is survived by daughters, Elida Santillano and husband, Gumecindo; Sylvia Morales and husband Johnnie Sr., and Mary E. Villa; son, Jose Angel "Joey" Ytuarte III and wife Elizabeth; sister Carmen Ybarra, sister-in laws, Socorro Velasquez and Elsa Ytuarte; 13 grandchildren, Melinda Santillano, Anthony Santillano and wife Courtney, Marissa Greer and husband Ben, Johnnie Morales Jr., Celeste Morales and husband Thomas, Valerie Gonzales, Ramon "Monzie" Villa, Jason Villa, and Joshua, Jonah, Abigail, Jose IV and Hannah Ytuarte; 12 great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Jackie Benites, Tony Ybarra, Lauren Flores, Chelsea and Ashlee Gonzales, Roman Jay Tapia, Stephen and Sean Greer, Henlie Jay Morales, Olivia Luz and Quinn Romayne Santillano; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed. Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 28, 6 to 8 p.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, Oct. 29, 2 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section. Pallbearers are Johnnie Morales Jr., Ramon "Monzie" Villa, Anthony Santillano, Jason Villa, Jonah Ytuarte, Jose Ytuarte and honorary pallbearer is Tony Ybarra.
