Lynette Louise
Saathoff Stewart
October 21, 1941 – March 19, 2026
Lynette Louise Saathoff Stewart, 84, of Quihi, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Blue Skies in San Antonio.
Born on October 21, 1941, in San Antonio, Lynette was the first child of Mathis and Wilfreen Saathoff. She grew up in the Dunlay area, where she excelled in 4H sewing and cooking. As the oldest of six, she learned the value of responsibility and hard work early in life.
Lynette met the love of her life, Jimmy Stewart, at the Cabaret Dance Hall in Bandera, Texas, and the two married in 1960. They welcomed their sons, Dean in 1961 and James in 1962. As a proud military wife during Jimmy's Air Force career, Lynette built a home for her family in Texas, Arizona, North Carolina, New Mexico and later in Iceland, where their daughter Monique was born in 1973. After their time in Iceland, they were stationed in the Philippines before returning to the United States. Throughout those years, Lynette worked in banking, supporting her family with dedication and grace.
After Jimmy retired from the Air Force in 1978, the family returned to the Hondo area. Lynette began a career as a Loan Officer with Gill Savings and managed the books for several family businesses, including Stewart's Gulf and Stewart's Mini Mart. She retired in 2000. Lynette and Jimmy were a team in every sense, working tirelessly to improve the properties they owned and ultimately building a home together in Quihi.
Lynette cherished time spent with family and friends. She enjoyed playing Spades, Pitch, Bunco, reading and quilting. She and Jimmy rarely missed a chance to dance at the Quihi Dance Hall. Her greatest joy came from being with her children and grandchildren, cheering them on at countless sporting events, plays, and performances. Lynette was also well-known for her exceptional cooking. Her homemade biscuits, peanut brittle, strawberry cake, pecan pie, and chicken and dumplings were family favorites.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Trevor Stewart; and her husband of 57 years, Jimmy.
Lynette is survived by her children: Dean Stewart (Cecelia) of Hondo; James Stewart (Janis) of Kerrville; and Monique Campos (Vince) of Hondo. She leaves behind her grandchildren: Christopher Gerstner, Gregg Gerstner, Kortney Polk (Kobi), Amanda Stewart, Tristan Stewart, Elizabeth Kuzmic (Zach), Brittany Mellon, Kayla Stewart, Mackenzie Ray (Hoo), Nolan Stewart, Julia Alvarado (Jacob), Isaiah Mellon, and Lauren Van De Walle; as well as great-grandchildren Hannah Droutsas, Heidi Droutsas, Norah Stewart, Colten Polk, Kade Polk, Samuel Kuzmic. She is also survived by her siblings: Joan Seekatz of Mico; Madelyn Schott (Gary) of Helotes; Alvin Saathoff (Birdie) of Portland; Curtis Saathoff (Terry) of San Antonio; and Yvonne Stein (Wayne) of Hondo.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Quihi Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
