With family by her side, Magdalene "Mac" Mangold Haass of Biry, 97, was granted her angel wings when God called her home on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017. She left to join her husband, August Wesley Haass; sons, Rudolph "R.L." Haass and Perry D. Haass; granddaughter, Shelly (Brett) McCelvey; great-grandson, baby Peyton Friesenhahn; and sisters, Corine Blackmon, Rose Marie Hans and Cora Lee Groff. Mac was born in Castroville, Mar. 22, 1919, to Eugene Mangold and Cora Holliman. Nanny, as she was known to the generations, enjoyed family and church, watching her grandchildren play sports, and working in her yard. Her legacy includes daughter, Barbara (Freddie) Friesenhahn of Biry; daughter-in-law, Suzi Haass of Biry; nine grandchildren: Jeff (Melinda) Friesenhahn, Debbie (Billy Abbott), Joey (Angie) Friesenhahn, Ronnie (Darla) Friesenhahn, Brant Haass, Gina (Chris) Laidley, Lisa (Eric) Rothe, and Courtney Wilson; 20 great-grandchildren. Misty, Chad, Lacey, Tyler, Shelby, Kyndall, BJ, Cassidy, Cody, Jody, Chesney, Logan, Jarrett, Ashley, Meagan, Mandy, Chance, Cassy, Ryan and Ross; and the 24 great-great-grandchildren she spoiled with lots of bubble gum: Jayce, Brady, Kolt, Aly, Luke, Paislee, Peyton, Jagger, Billy Gaige, Krue, Avery, Leighton, Hayes, Rhyder, Teegan, Brittan, Savannah, Shyler, Landry, Oakley, Greeley, Blake, Kolby and Kynlee. She also leaves behind her sisters, Johnnie Mae Quinn and Grace Klump, and numerous nieces and nephews. Rosary, followed by Memorial Mass, will be held Friday, Mar. 3, 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in LaCoste, with Fr. Paul Cleary officiating.
