Margie Verstraeten Yanta, age 72, of Devine went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Born in San Antonio, Feb. 23, 1943, she was the daughter of Henry and Aline DeBacker Verstraeten. Margie was a first generation Belgium-American. As a child she worked tirelessly on the family vegetable farm. For the past 52 years she worked alongside her husband Edwin. What first began as a row-crop farm developed into a very successful irrigated hay farm, which Margie helped to manage. She especially loved working in her yard, but her passion was her grandchildren. Margie loved watching them play sports, work on the hay farm and grow into respectable Christian young men and women. Margie was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Marshall and Jerry Verstraeten. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Edwin L. Yanta; daughters, Diane Marie Trammell of Flower Mound and Judy Lynn Anderson and husband Wayde of Devine; son, Scott Gussie Yanta and wife Kim of Devine; six grandchildren, Courtney and Kyle Trammell, Reagan and Caroline Anderson and Cole and Kaylee Yanta; sister, Joyce Ullrich and husband Dennis of San Antonio; brothers, Richard Verstraeten and wife Pat of Castroville, Frank Verstraeten of San Antonio and Henry Verstraeten and wife Karen of San Antonio. Rosary at 9:30 a.m., followed by Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., will be held Tuesday, May 19, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Devine.
