Maria Evangelina
"Eva" Sanchez Warden
August 21, 1948 – February 6, 2024
Maria Evangelina "Eva" Warden, a cherished member of the Hondo community, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2024. She was 75. Born August 21, 1948, in Hondo, she was the daughter of Jacobo Sanchez, Jr. and Eloisa Guedea Sanchez. Eva was a graduate of Hondo High School, Class of 1969, and furthered her education at Parish-Draughons Business College.
Eva was known for her boundless generosity and love for crafting and baking, often creating handmade treasures for her beloved friends and family. She found joy in hosting Bingo nights, bringing laughter and camaraderie to those around her. A devout member of St. John's Catholic Church, Eva's faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she found fulfillment in serving others through her involvement in the church.
In addition to her church involvement, Eva volunteered at various food banks before caring for her husband full time. However, above all, Eva cherished the moments spent with her granddaughter, especially their Sunday talks which were filled with love, laughter, and wisdom.
She was preceded death by her parents; her first husband, John Carrales; sister, Enedina "Nina" Rodriguez; and bother-in-law, Frank Sandoval.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Warden; daughter, Erica Drake (Damon) of San Antonio, granddaughter, Reagan Jon Drake; sister, Carmen Sandoval; and brothers, Reynaldo Sanchez, (Elizabeth), Ernesto Sanchez (Rose), Roberto Sanchez, and many nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.
Eva will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and love that will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
The family is planning a private celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any of the local food banks in Eva's honor or to St. John's Catholic Church in Hondo, Texas.
