Maria Escobar Gaitan, age 87, of Hondo passed away Friday, Mar. 6, 2009. She was born Nov. 8, 1921, in Piedras Negras, Coah., Mexico, the daughter of Gabriel and Teresa (Ramirez) Escobar. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Prisciliano Gaitan Sr.; and brothers, Jose and Gabriel "Nene" Escobar. Maria is survived by her children, Guillermina Esparza and husband Raul and Teresa Trujillo and husband Rogelio of San Antonio, Prisciliano E. Gaitan Jr. and wife Edna and Francisco Gaitan and wife Minerva of Hondo, Roberto Gaitan and wife Dora of San Antonio, Ernesto Gaitan and wife Delia of Hondo, Ruth Ramirez and husband Abel and Reynaldo Gaitan and wife Lupita of San Antonio; 30 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren; sisters, Armandina Alvarado and husband Eleazar of Piedras Negras and Juanita Castro and husband Baltazar of Uvalde. Visitation was Sunday, Mar. 8, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Monday, Mar. 9 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Guinn-Horger Funeral Home. The Funeral service will be Tuesday, Mar. 10, at 2 p.m. at Iglesia Cristiana. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
