Maria V. Garcia, age 88, of Hondo passed away Monday, Apr. 16, 2012. Born Feb. 26, 1924, in Hondo, she was the daughter of Jose C. and Gregoria (Vasquez) Velasquez. She was a homemaker and active member of the Guadalupana Society. Maria is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Betty; son, Gustavo I; brother, Simon Velasquez; great-grandson, Christopher Guedea and brother-in-law, Teofilo Ybarra Jr. She is survived by her husband, Frank Garcia Sr.; daughter, Adelina Fansler and husband Lloyd; son, Frank Garcia Jr. and wife Irene, all of Hondo; son, Gustavo Gonsalo Garcia of Harlingen; eight grandchildren; sisters, Luz Ytuarte and husband Jose Angel and Carmen Ybarra, all of Hondo; brother, Jose Velasquez and wife Soccoro of Chicago; eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, and nephews. Funeral Mass was held at 2 p.m., Friday, Apr. 20, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section. Pallbearers were Nicholas J. Nahnsen, David A. Garcia, Casey M. Alvis, Mike A. Garcia, Chris Ybarra and Ramon Villa.
