Maria Elena Gauna Garza, age 66, of Hondo passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2011. She was born May 30, 1944, in Hondo, the daughter of Abelino D. and Maria (Cardenas) Gauna. She was a seamstress. She is preceded in death by her father, an infant child, and her companion, Felix Rangel. Survivors are her mother, Maria Gauna; brothers, Gilbert Gauna and wife Corina of Yancey, Joe Gauna and wife Yolanda of San Antonio, Mario Gauna of Hondo and Elias Gauna and wife Anna Velia of Hondo; sisters, Janie Strickland and husband William and Rosa Linda Johnston and husband Terry, all of Hondo; and many nieces and nephews. The Guinn-Horger Chapel will be open for visitation on Friday, May 27, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. Rosary was recited Friday, May 27, at Guinn-Horger Chapel and funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, followed by interment at Yancey Cemetery. Pallbearers were Eden Gauna, Elias Gauna Jr., Gilbert Gauna Jr., T. J. Johnston, Juan Samaniego and Daniel Moncada.
