Maria R.  Hernandez Rosales of Hondo, age 86, went to be with her Lord Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023.

Born in Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico, March 1, 1937, she was the daughter of Crecensio and Juanita Gonzales Hernandez.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 46 years, Jose O. Rosales (Chino); daughter, Rosa I. Rosales; and brother, Juan Antonio Hernandez.

Maria moved to the US after marrying her husband where they started their family here in Hondo. She spent her years as a homemaker and in 1992 was so proud to have received her US citizenship. She spent countless hours studying and would quiz her grandkids. She loved having her granddaughters from out of town come and visit every summer while they were little. Maria was a social butterfly who loved to join her friends and family eating at the local restaurants and enjoyed chatting with many of the locals she would run into. Maria was also a music lover, her favorite was listening to live Mariachi musicians play.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Leticia Gutierrez and spouse JeanLouis Eboueme; son, Sergio Rosales and spouse Maria; grandchildren, Rosa Carmona, Ceci Carmona, Casey Rodriguez and spouse Javier, Sergio Rosales Jr. and Samuel Rey Rosales; and great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kelsey Cowart, Braden McAfee, Jonah Rodriguez, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday Sept. 16, 9 to 9:30 a.m., followed at 9:30 with recitation of the Rosary and Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section. Reception to follow at South Texas Regional Training Center 402 Carter, Hondo, TX 78861
