Marian Adeline
Beyer Lindeburg
November 1, 1936 – March 12, 2025
Marian Adeline (Beyer) Lindeburg of Hondo, age 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 12, 2025, surrounded by her family, caretakers, and pastor.
Born November 1, 1936, in Fredericksburg, she was the daughter of Felix and Norma (Wunderlich) Beyer. She wrote in her journal "Praise God for my parents, who prayed for me, took me to Sunday school and church, and who taught me God's value. May we continue to let Jesus live in our hearts. Praise God for leading me on." She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg, later becoming a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hondo. It was her pastor at St. Paul who recited Marian's beloved confirmation verse, John 3:16, as she peacefully passed.
Much like other children living in rural Gillespie County at the time, she began her education in a one-room schoolhouse. She later attended Fredericksburg schools through the end of her junior year, when her family moved to Hondo. She graduated with the Hondo High School Class of 1956. During these formative years, she made life-long friends, was in the Pep Squad and FHA, and began her love of sports, playing on basketball and softball teams.
In her youth, she worked as a "soda jerk" at the Sunnyside Hut, a hub of community life in Fredericksburg. Prior to marriage she worked at the Dawson's Five and Dime Store, Hondo and was a singles and doubles champion on the Hondo WIBC Bowling League at the original bowling alley located at the airbase. She was adventurous and thought it would be interesting to work as a tornado chaser.
On August 18, 1963, she and Elroy Lindeburg of Dunlay were wed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hondo. They were blessed with 54 years of marriage at the time of Elroy's passing. She wrote in her journal, "I thank my husband for the wonderful special-times in our life."
She had a servant's heart at St. Paul Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir, taught Junior Lutherans, Sunday and Vacation Bible School and in her journal prayed for the children she taught. With the St. Paul Lutheran Women, she served on the board; helped make quilts for Lutheran World Relief and coordinated cakes for the monthly birthday party at the Community Care Center, Hondo. She along with Leona Honig and Cecilia Johnson accepted the 2008 Texas Volunteer Conference Award on behalf of the St. Paul Lutheran Women, for their service at the Community Care Center.
She also had a servant's heart in her community. For many years, on Thursday mornings, she could be found volunteering for the Medina Regional Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop.
She was an avid Hondo Owls Fan supporting many team sports but she loved football season. At Hondo's "beautiful" Barry Field, she held the same stadium seats since 1971, and memorized new UIL football rules appearing in the Hondo Anvil Herald. When confusing penalties were called, Marian seemed to always have the answer why. With the Hondo Band Boosters, she helped make chicken salad sandwiches for the football concession stands, and was a band bus chaperone during away games.
In 2015, she had a stroke and then spent several years in other centers before becoming a resident of the Community Care Center in 2019, where she volunteered at for so many years. The stroke may have affected her physical ability but it never took away her steadfast love and faithfulness to her Lord and Savior. We rejoice that she is now healed, and in His eternal presence.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Elroy Lindeburg; sister and brother in-law Elizabeth and Raymond Raute; brother and sister in-law Marvin and Mary Beyer; and brother Raymond Beyer.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dianna (Lindeburg) and Ivey Smith and sister-in-law, Clara Beyer; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was also loved and will be missed by her caregivers and staff at the Community Care Center and Alamo Hospice.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hondo, followed by Memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Services will conclude at the church. A private interment will be held at a later date.
Arrangements by Guinn-Horger Funeral Home.
