Marignacia "Nacha" (Aguinaga) Mares, age 81, of Hondo passed away Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, surrounded by her family. Maria I., as she was also known, was born Feb. 1, 1928, in D'Hanis, the daughter of Leonzo and Luz (Garza) Aguinaga. She was a field worker and a homemaker. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pedro Mares Sr.; daughter, Eloisita "Rosita" Aguinaga; son, Juan De Dios Mares; grandson, Esteban Castillo; great-grandson, Jacob Tanton; sisters, San Juanita Flores and Isabel "Chavela" Trinidad; brothers, Valentine, Guadalupe, Jenaro, Porfirio, and Simon Aguinaga. She is survived by her sons, Jose D. Mares of Hondo, Pedro S. Mares and wife Maricela of Abilene, Roberto Mares of Hondo, and Andres Mares of Brownwood; daughters, Beatrice E. Gonzales and husband Silvino, Sr., Jesusita "Susie" Cruz and husband Francisco, all of Hondo, Margarita "Margie" DeLeon of Arizona, San Juanita Mares of Devine, and Guadalupe Ytuarte and husband Jose Armando of Harper; stepdaughters, Simona Gonzales of Utah and Seferina Fernandez of Hondo; 38 grandchildren, 5 stepgrandchildren, 105 great-grandchildren, 33 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Hortencia Sandez of Arizona; brothers, Domingo Aguinaga of Idaho and Leonzo Aguinaga of Washington. Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. with Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at the Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with Fr. Ken Dakin officiating. Pallbearers are Abel Garcia, Steve Gonzales, Jacob Mares, Cody Ytuarte, Phillip Ramirez and Gabriel Suetrong. Mikel Betancourt will be honorary pallbearer. Interment will be at Wernette Cemetery in D'Hanis.
