On June 11, 2013, Martha Jane (Meeks) Schlentz Dawson, age 80, of Midland, formerly of Hondo, left this life to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Martha Jane Meeks was born August 16, 1932, to James Earl and Willie (Hunter) Meeks in Alpine. After graduating from nursing school, she became a Registered Nurse. She worked as a dedicated nurse for more than 50 years in hospitals in Castroville and Hondo. For a few years, she also served as Director of Nursing at Medina Memorial Hospital in Hondo. Martha was happily married to Alton for more than 51 years and they had four children, Charles, Glen, Michael and Brenda; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. After being a widow for six years, Martha, at the age of 80, married her teenage sweetheart, Tommy Dale Dawson, on June 23, 2012. Her family was truly blessed by her example of love, determination, and dedication. The lives of her family have been forever touched , inspired and marked by the life that she lived and the love that she showed. She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Alton Louis Schlentz; grandson, Jacob Matthew; and great-grandson, Ezekiel Jacob. Surviving are her husband, Tommy Dale Dawson; sister, Jimmie Perryman; her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and her step-family. Her family includes: son, Charles Earl (Michelle) and children, Jonathan Michael and Kristin Elizabeth; son, Glen Ray (Hope) and children, Glen Ray Jr., Caleb Joshua (Amanda) and children, Ierly Kendall, Vada Jacqlyn, Jacob Matthew Jr. and Bryan Michael; son, Michael Keith (Kara) and children, Landrye Grace, Ryder Quinn and Garrett; daughter, Brenda (Brian) and children, Alyssa Marie and Victoria Lee Hrncir; stepchildren, Wilfred (Michele) Crenwelge and children, Wesley, Galand and Marisa and Paul (Linda) Breen; and inlaws, Leslie (Brenda) Dawson and their families, Karen (Don) Isham and children, Tommy Joe Dawson and children, Michael (Autumn) Beck and children, Jarrod (Olivia) Beck and children. Visitation will be Friday, June 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at the Church on the Hill. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
