Martin Jesus "MJ" DeLeon of Hondo, age 16, passed away Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016, as the result of a motor vehicle accident. Born May 24, 2000, in Uvalde, he was the son of Martin "Marty" Deleon and Graciela "Gracie" Lopez DeLeon. MJ was a loving son, brother, friend and student. He enjoyed the outdoors, engaged in basketball and baseball at Hondo High School and spent most weekends working at the South Texas Maize, ranch or spending time with friends. He will always be remembered by his infectious smile and amazing personality. He had the sweetest disposition and was always happy and loved everyone with all his heart. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Albert R. Lopez and Maria Alvesa "Bessie" Garcia; and aunt, Enereida DeLeon. Survivors are his father, Martin "Marty"(Rosalinda) DeLeon; mother, Graciela "Gracie" Lopez DeLeon; sisters, Karyssa DeLeon, Adrianna DeLeon, Nariya DeLeon; stepbrother, Lazaro Cortez; grandparents, Pedro and Josefina DeLeon, all of Hondo; aunts and uncles, Lamar (Fernando) Cabrera and Veronica DeLeon, all of Hondo, Leticia Martinez, Rosa Elia DeLeon, Oscar DeLeon and Ricardo DeLeon, all of Phoenix AZ, Pedro DeLeon of Killeen and Javier DeLeon of Eagle Pass. Also, niece and nephew, Makenley and Michael Rodriguez Jr.; great-aunt, Adelina Lopez, all of Hondo; and numerous cousins. Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m., with Rosary recited at 7:30 p.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 10, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with interment following at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section. The family suggests memorials may be made to a scholarship fund in his name at Medina Electric Coop.
