Mary Emma Britsch Prescott Mathews of Hondo, 82, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2017. Born in Hondo, Oct. 24, 1934, she was the daughter of John G. and Emma Mary Bohmfalk Britsch. As a lifelong member of New Fountain United Methodist Church, Mary Emma played the organ and piano and served in countless other capacities. During her decades as manager/owner of the Hondo Dairy Queen, she always greeted everyone in the community with a smile and a slice of pie. Mary's greatest joy was being the loving caretaker for many family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Finis Alanzo Prescott; daughter, Valerie Ann Prescott Breathwit; and brothers, John Henry Britsch and Marvin George Britsch. Survivors include her husband, Al Mathews of Hondo; children, Jim "Jimmy" (Jonna)Prescott of Pearland, Lewis Howard (Mina) Mathews of Miyakonojo City, Japan, Timothy (Dodie) Mathews of Las Cruces NM, and Sandra (Jeremy) Sexton of D'Hanis; grandchildren, Eric (Natalie) Prescott, Leah Mathews, Xander Mathews and Rob Sexton; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be Thursday, May 18, 5 to 7 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be held Friday, May 19, 10 a.m., at New Fountain United Methodist Church. Service will conclude at the church. The family suggests memorials may be made to New Fountain United Methodist Church, Bluebonnet (CASA), or another charitable organization.
