Mary Martha Gilbert Matthews of Helotes, 68, passed away Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018. Born in Hondo, Feb. 11, 1950, she was the daughter of Charlie Arthur Gilbert and Mildred Naomi Welch Gilbert. Mary graduated Hondo High School with the Class of 1968. She and Jack Matthews were married May 8, 1999. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Georgia Dean Schweers and Gloria L. Rule. Survivors include her husband of 20 years, John Summers "Jack" Matthews of Helotes; children, Nichole Freeman of Hondo, Dusty Ferguson of Russellville AR, Jackie (Chad) Chisnall of Lexa AR, Wendy Matthews of Houston, Keith (Marci) Schneider of Helotes and Allen "Duke" Schneider of Boerne; grandchildren, Collin and Caleb Chisnall of Lexa AR, Morgan Ferguson of Russellville AR, Bryan and Kaci Sullivan and Abigail Bermea of Hondo and Mackenzie and Kaitlin Schneider of Helotes; and great-granddaughter, Charlotte Trevino of Hondo. Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 4, 6 to 7 p.m., Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2:00 p.m. at Guinn-Horger Chapel, followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
