Mary Elizabeth DeJoirno Pennington, age 89, of Hondo passed away Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, in Hondo. She was born at home in the Sturm Hill community, Oct. 21, 1919, the daughter of Bernard John "Ben" and Elizabeth (Fischer) De Joirno. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Thomas "J.T." Pennington; infant son, David Charles Pennington; brother, Benjamin J. "Benny" De Joirno Jr.; and sister, Lucille Mumme. Mary was a homemaker and co-owner and operator with her husband of Pennington Electric. She is survived by her daughter, Connie Neuman and husband Charles; son, Michael Pennington; and three grandsons, Doug Neuman, wife Karen and sons, Garrett and Paul, Allen Neuman, wife Georgia and children, Ben, Joshua, Elizabeh and Caleb, and David Neuman and wife Jennifer. Visitation will be at Guinn-Horger Chapel Tuesday, Nov. 11, 5 to 7 p.m. Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, followed by the Funeral Mass. The pallbearers were Garrett Neuman, Paul Neuman, Josh Neuman, Ben Neuman, Caeb Neuman, Allen Neuman, Elizabeth Neuman, Douglas Neuman, Michael Weiblen, David Neuman. Interment will be at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Castroville.
